Desaad's Victim #1- Prime Earth (Earth 2 2012) The New 52

First Appearance: Earth 2 (2012) #15.1

Five Years before the current time line, Desaad's first victim was fast asleep, drunk in a chair on the beach of Hawaii. Desaad, having pulled himself from the sea after being transported from Earth 2 to Prime Earth is weak from hunger and decides to feed on his fear and pain. He senses that this man has lost much already and has little he can snack on, but says it's more than the shark he had killed had contained. Desaad scratches his forehead and he wakes up in fear and pain, killing the victim and feasting on the agony he caused.

Desaad- Prime Earth (Earth 2 2012): The New 52

First Appearance: Justice League (2011) #6

Desaad makes a cameo in #0, in a flashback 6 years before the current time line of Earth 2, where Mr. 08 is talking about multiple worlds where they have lost and won against the armies of Apokolips. An energy shard depicts Desaad standing at the side of Darkseid and Steppewolf, towering over a large group of people, who all have their heads bowed in defeat.

In #15.1, a flashback shows he drags himself onto the shore of Hawaii. He was just about to be given a group of survivors from Earth 2, when he fell through a Boom Tube and was transported to Prime Earth. He is met with a shark, which he kills and throws the dead body onto the beach. However he mutters that it was hardly worth killing. He crosses the beach, where he comes across a man asleep and drunk. He scratches the man's forehead, saying there is not much to feed off him, but there is more than the shark, using his powers to steal his fear and leave him dead on the beach.

Hours later, Desaad makes his way to a Honolulu Hospital, sensing all the pain present and saying it will be enough to restore him back to his old self. He goes towards the staff entrance, where he uses mind control to get past a security guard, who also let him into the building, before sending him off to kill people for his own pleasure. A doctor tells him to go to the visitor's lounge as they are working, calling him "Halloween." Desaad goes to a medical box, where he gives a blade to the doctor and gets him to slit open his hand.

Four years later in the Congo, Desaad is building a tower and "basic" Apokoliptian technology, however it is hard for him to get all the materials he needed. He compares human to insects, living so fast but doing so little with there lives. Cutter, one of Desaad's henchmen reports that they have developed powerful I.E.D.S into the Afghan War that cause much pain and death that takes hours. He says its adequate, but asks what of "the general," remarking that he has a scent similar to Steppenwolf and calling the latter a "false disciple of the master" who hid behind his armies. Desaad sees that the general he wanted to corrupt was, but expresses that Cutter failed to have someone corrupted in Holt Industries so he could gain access to the Quantum Tunneller. He turns to a hologram of a man reading a newspaper, stating that he was close to mastering Boom Tube technology but doesn't have the power source he needs. He questions if Darkseid has left him for dead, before fearing that Darkseid might think him to a traitor for fleeing. He yells at Cutter to bring him the Tunneller.

When Desaad finds out about both Holt and the Tunneller going missing he screams in fury, smashing the sphere he was looking through, creating a Boom Tube and telling them to return to him. He declares that Holt is out of his reach for that moment in time.

A year before the current history of Prime Earth, Desaad has humans strapped to chairs, where he is using their fear to try and power machinery. He claims they are instruments that are to be used by himself. He questions why is unable to control some people, slapping Cutter and ordering him to try again with readying his mind. He walks away wishing him to be more compliant like Ryouta, entering a chamber where he is experimenting on him. He smirks, asking if he feels the radiation filling him and watches calmly as Ryouta brakes free and demands that the pain is stopped. Desaad questions this, telling him pain is what will free him from humanity. He asks if he wanted to be more than human and in his employment and he bows down, titling Desaad as his "master."  He walks away, sighing that "they brake so easily." He orders Cutter to fully irradiate Ryouta and then send him to destroy the Tunneller as it is no use to him (but doesn't want it to end up in the hands of Power Girl and Huntress).

He takes an interest in the artist, summoning a Boom Tube as he had earned "personal consideration." He arrives at the artists house, where the artist is too lost in his work to notice the appearance of Desaad. He decides not to be hasty with the artist, moving away and stating that first the world's beauty will be destroyed and then finally he will return for the artist.

In the present day, Desaad prayed to a large statue of Darkseid in his tower, wishing that Darkseid would come and fetch him and that he is loyal, growing stronger to stand at his side on Apokolips.

Darkseid- Prime Earth (Earth 2 2012) : The New 52

First Appearance: Justice League (2011) #6

Darkseid makes a cameo in #0, when Mr. 08 is talking about the discovery of more worlds than just Earth 2 that have battled with Apokolips (either winning or loosing) an energy shard shows a picture of Darkseid, Steppenwolf and  Desaad towering over a race of people, who all have their heads bowed in defeat.

Desaad- Prime Earth (Justice League 2011): The New 52

First Appearance: Justice League (2011) #6

Desaad is first seen in issue #6, where he is torturing Superman on Apokolips after he was brought to him due the Harvesting Command Towers on Earth not having the right equipment to deal with Kryptonian physiology.  He expresses his pleasure at repeatedly cutting Superman's flesh, but is reprimanded by Steppenwolf as feeling pleasure was considered to be forbidden on Apokolips. Steppenwolf tells him that Superman was not there for his personal amusement, but was the going to be the new breed of soldier for Darkseid's army in conquest and the search for Darkseid's daughter. Desaad comments on the fact that Darkseid won't stop until she was located and retrieved and Steppenwolf tells him that they won't either. He has Superman trapped, using his powers to torture him.

Later when Cyborg remotely triggers the Mother Boxes on Earth, Desaad and Steppenwolf's are also activated and create Boom Tubes. Desaad is confused and scared, (still holding a knife he was using on Superman) and shouts that they are under attack. He orders Steppenwolf to secure Superman, but before they can do anything else they are sent through a boom tube, where they trapped on Earth 2 with no way to get back to Earth.

Steppenwolf- Prime Earth (Justice League 2011): The New 52

First Appearance: Justice League (2011) #6

Steppenwolf first appeares in #6, overseeing Desaad as he tortures Superman. He barks at Desaad stating shouldn't feel pleasure as it is forbidden, when the later tells him that he is enjoying cutting Superman's flesh repeatedly. Steppenwolf tells Desaad that he wasn't brought for him and that he was going to become the new breed of soldier for Darkseid in the hunt of conquest and his daughter. Desaad comments that Darkseid won't stop his search and Steppenwolf says that they shouldn't either, repeating the phrase "All hail Darkseid."

When Cyborg remotely activates the Mother Boxes, he activates Steppenwolf and Desaad's as well. Desaad hysterically orders him to secure Superman, but before he can do anything else both he and Desaad are sent through Boom Tubes and are trapped on Earth 2 with no way of ever getting back to Apokolips.

Darkseid- Prime Earth (Justice League 2012) : The New 52

First Appearance: Justice League (2012) #3

Darkseid makes a cameo appearance in #3, where Victor Stone somehow sees him standing on the mountains of Apokolips, beneath the red sky and setting sun, with Parademons flying around him.

In #4, Darkseid arrives to Prime Earth using a Boom Tube, just seconds after Cyborg warns Aquaman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Superman that he was coming. Batman questions who Cyborg was referring to, but his question is answered. Green Lantern comments that he was the "bad guy" and Batman sarcastically says that it was a good guess. He slams the ground to knock the heroes off their feet, introducing himself to the heroes.

In #5, Darkseid takes the opportunity, while the heroes are down to fire Omega Beams at air force vehicles and destroy them Flash comes to and begs him to stop. He turns his focus to the Flash and he nervously calls to the others to see if they were conscious and could possibly help him, joking that he wasn't good at making small talk. Superman answers, but before he can do anything, Darkseid fires more Omega Beams at him. The Flash grabs Superman and speeds off, but the beams are locked onto them after they split up. The Omega Beam chasing the Flash killed a Parademon after he had vibrated through the Parademon, causing the beam to mistake it's target. The beam following Superman hits him, knocking him unconscious and causing him to be captured.

Darkseid then goes to face the other heroes, strong enough to withstand an energy construct from Green Lantern before sending him flying backwards. He easily throws Lantern back at the others when he gets back up and attacks again. Darkseid snatches his ring arm and brakes it, before storming off.

In #6, Darkseid continues his assault on downtown Metropolis, killing anyone h can find. Darkseid is about to kill David Graves and his family, who were present at the time, but is distracted by green fire works in the distance and is attacked by the the heroes present. Wonder Woman uses her Lasso of Truth to pull Darkseid down to his knees and interrogate him on why he was invading the Earth. He replies that it was "for her", however he doesn't elaborate who "her is." (His daughter)

Wonder Woman tells him to fight stating that she was bored. He fires at her, roaring that both Superman and Earth was his. But Wonder Woman blocks with her Bracelets of Submission, leaping at Darkseid and shouting that the world "belongs to no one and everyone." She stabs Darkseid in one of his eyes and while staggering in pain has the other one stabbed by Aquaman and the trident of Neptune. Wonder Woman asks what that they can do as Darkseid was still standing and Cyborg suggests sending him home by opening a Boom Tube and forcing him back to Apokolips. Cyborg opens multiple Boom Tubes after remotely triggering all the Parademons' Mother Boxes as Darkseid pulls the weapons from his eyes.

Flash is trying to pull Darkseid through the Boom Tube as Superman and Batman arrive back on Earth, shouting that they will "all fall." Darkseid claims that he needs Superman and in fury they fight with Superman struggling to push him through. However Darkseid gets the upper hand and grabs him, shouting that he is coming with him, but Superman tells him that he won't be.

Cyborg manages to close and destroy all the Boom Tubes, sending him back to Apokolips and cutting him off during his threat of returning.

Arrow (2012) Season 2- Overall Series Review

This is just amazing and I would recommend it to anyone.

After the powerful and moving ending of Season 1, Arrow hits back even harder with Season 2 with the arrival of new vigilantes and villains.

Sara Lance is back from the dead as the kick ass Canary, bringing with her the big reveal of the League of Assassins and the Heir of the Demon.

Who elese is back?.... Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), who everyone believes to be dead looks very much alive during fight sequences.

The story has several plots: Sara's return, Brother Blood and the Mirakuru and the biggest plot of the series, the revenge of Slade Wilson and his taking up the mantle of Deathstroke.

The characters are all just brillaintly acted, with Canary stealing many of the scenes she is in with a darker tone that even puts Oliver's brooding in the show to shame. But for me the most exciting part of the series was the reveal of the Suicide Squad and it's one shadowy member that we can only hear.... None other than Batman's own Harley Quinn!

Quinn, Canary, a bunch of killer assassins and the return of the Count to his old self as the newly christened Count Vertigo, Arrow is truly making it's name as one of the best adaptaions from comics to tv in this decade.

Series 2 also acts as a gateway to the Flash tv series and brings the fantastic Flash cast to Arrow and vise-versa.

Arrow (2012) Season 1- Overall Review

Slow starting, but picking up pace with a bang, the first series of Arrow finished so strongly. I'm not saying that slow is bad, because the show was setting up the characters, giving them rather a lot of development... shaping them into the characters we see in later series or later on in the particular series.

Season 1 focused on Oliver's life after returning from Lian Yu (Pergatory in mandarin) and the begining of his career as the Hood. The villains he must overcome are The Count, the Huntress, the Royal Flush Gang and the series big bad guy... John Barrowman as the intense and violent Dark Archer.

The Count has to be my favourite character, with his flamboyance and creepy mannerisms but I like many of the characters. Arrow also does a good job with strong female lead characters, mainly with Felicity Smoak.

To conclude series 1 is brilliant and with series 2 it is a great comicbook adaptation for the tv.

The Flash (2014) Overall Series Review

Wow, this show is epic and I mean EPIC.

I have only seen three episodes and I am just craving more. The show has everything I like in a  tv show, C.S.I style forensic work, heroes and fast paced action with a good set of characters... all of which are well developed and rounded. N.B: Apologises for the pun.

I love the fact that the Arrow and the Flash world interlink, giving the characters the ability to pass onto both shows. So for those haven't seen any Flash episodes, you will already know Barry Allen and how he got his powers, as well as Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon from just watching last season's Arrow (if you have seen them.)

There are many easter eggs and comic book refrences that I love.

The show has already given me a  favourite character in the form of Caitlin Snow, who is both funny when she is having a go at Barry, but also has a lot of secrets that make her character interesting.

I don't think there is a weak link among the main cast and with the announcements of new characters on the way, I don't think it will take as long as Arrow did (this isn't a critism to Arrow) to kick start into real comic book action.

In conclusion it is a brillaint show and I am looking forward to seeing what else will come from it... Perhaps even a Justice League? (I know the answer to the last question and what ever it will be, I'm psyched.)

Gotham (2014) Overall Series Review

Now I can't say for the rest of the series, but I have been seriously impressed with Gotham from the start.

True the pilot was cluttered introducing characters, but I think since then it has done well in character development and pace of introduction.

The series airs on Mondays in both Britain and the U.S (Channel 5 for U.K at 9.00). It is one of my favourite comic book live action tv shows, up there with the Flash and Arrow. This is show is not about the powers, acting more like a cop show with Dc Characters. The show looks like it is heading for  Gordon to crack the mystery of who killed the Waynes and with each week that passes the more people you can add to the list of suspects.

If I had to have favourite characters, I would choose Oswald Cobblepot, Edward Nygma and Fish Mooney. I like the fact that the show has kept to the grit of Gotham and showing it's seedy, crime corrupted past. I also like the fact that they stayed true to the comic book mythos and did not change the fact that Renee Montoya is an open Lesbian character, as she was one of the best lesbian characters depicted in the comic book franchise, before the New 52, where she has not appeared or at least appeared once.

That being said the relationship between Barbara Kean, Gordon's fiancee and former partner to Montoya and Montoya herself is not very strong and at times can be very hamfisted in it's portrayal. It's as if the writers don't actually know what to do with the two characters, so I hope that they prove this wrong, because I actually wanted to like Montoya (from the Pilot episode) more than I did, because she is such an icon and one of my favourite characters in the Dc Universe.

In conclusion I do adore this show, true it is not perfect... but what show is and would you keep watching if you didn't need to follow the characters more and watch them grow?

Injustice Gods Among Us (2013) Video Game- Review

For me I find this game to be fantastic. I'm not much of a gamer, so this game has got me into a section of games like Mortal Kombat (same game desginer.)

The game has several diffrent modes: the story, a multiplayer, a mission section and a solo training/ fighting against the computer.

To give a brief discription of the story, Superman has become a threat to the world after the death of Lois Lane, his unborn son and Metropolis, all at the hands of the Joker. He has formed a group called the One- Earth Regime in order to stem crime, but is more like a fascist dictatorship, were people are living in fear and oppression.

Batman uses a machine to transport an alternate version of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Arrow and Green Lantern to his Earth in an effort to stop the Regime and leads to the ultimate stand-off, where they will end the war... or die trying.

The game has a fabulous array of characters from Ares (the God of War) to Sinestro and Shazam, all with amazing abilities. Also if you pay for DLC you can enjoy using five additional characters to the ones the game provides as well as classic comic book costumes from The New 52, Flashpoint and the Blackest Night.

It is also has a I.O.S version, where Darkseid has  been given his own character to play with.

This game is for fans of Dc Comics, super-heroes or just gamers in general, who like playing the Mortal Kombat style and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

(If you want additional backstories of the game, Dc are bringing out weekly titles of the rise in Superman's Regime. So far Dc are in it's third year of the title (comic, not real) where there has been many shochs and deaths... pages to these comics and characters will also be addedd to this blog in due course.)

Have to keep moving! Won’t give up...

ALAN SCOTT:
Sam! Where are you?! Sam. Oh Sam, please be alive.

ALAN SCOTT: (V.O.)
Wait, what’s... that? A light... Green Light rescuers!

ALAN SCOTT:
Over here! Hey! I’m...

A GREEN FLAME BURSTS IN FRONT OF HIM. ALAN STARES IN AWE AT THE CRACKLING FIRE.

THE GREEN:
Alan Scott... You are the one.

ALAN SCOTT:
No. A green, talking bonfire? No. It can’t...

THE GREEN:
I am fire, yes, and light. Energy. All the power of the Earth.

ALAN SCOTT:
Wait, now I now what this is. The accident... this is the crash, it’s got to be. I’m hallucinating. The pain... making me see things...

THE GREEN:
This is real, Alan Scott. I am real. Let me prove it...

THE FLAMES WHIP AT SCOTT, WRAPPING AROUND HIM AND SOOTHING THE PAIN INSIDE.

THE GREEN: (CONT’D)
...Let me take away the pain and begin to mend your body.

THE FIRE RETREATS, PALE EMERALD FLAMES RISING FROM HIS SKIN.

ALAN SCOTT:
This isn’t happening. Can’t... has to all be in my head.

THE GREEN:
Why are you so certain?

ALAN SCOTT:
Because... I’m talking to a green fireball.

THE GREEN:
But your pain has gone, hasn’t it?

ALAN SCOTT:
Yes. No! Pain’s not important. I have to find Sam, he’s got to be here... somewhere here... Wait I remember... I saw a green light within the explosion. My god! Was it you that caused the crash!

THE GREEN:
That was the work of another. No. What you saw was me reaching into the blast. My saving you.

ALAN SCOTT:
No. If you’re real... if you can do amazing things... then help me find Sam. Please!

THE GREEN:
I’m afraid your lover did not survive, Alan.

ALAN SCOTT:
Sam?

THE GREEN:
My task was only to protect you for the role you’re destined to play.

ALAN LOOKS DOWN, HIDING HIS TEARS FROM THE FLAMES.

THE GREEN: (CONT’D)
An evil will soon be upon the Earth, which if left unchallenged will destroy all life. I am the embodiment of the Earth’s energy. In truly dark times, a champion is chosen. I would pass that power to you, to fight this coming danger and all other evils abroad for that matter.

ALAN LOOKS AT THE FLAMES, CONFUSED.

ALAN SCOTT:
Wait, the Earth selects a champion? Why didn’t you recruit someone during the Apokolips war? The lives you could have...

THE GREEN:
The world then had a sun god among it’s defenders.

ALAN SCOTT:
What, Superman?

THE GREEN:
This evil to come will make that war seem inconsequential and you must stand in Superman’s stead, Alan Scott... as the Earth’s new defender.

Not yet, but when you understand my intentions, you’re certainly not the type who’ll look kindly upon them.

MR. TERRIFIC GETS INTO A FIGHTING STANCE, COMMANDING THE T-SPHERES TO HIS SIDE.

MR. TERRIFIC:
Oh, that’s how it is then? We’ll you can try “World’s smartest man.” Bring it.

TERRY SLOAN:
Yes, I assumed T-Spheres would be your opening move, so I already devised a counter-measure.

SLOAN TURNS THE GLOVES UP TOWARDS THE SKY, CREATING A FINE CLOUD OF PALE DUST. THE DUST COVERS THE T-SPHERES MAKING THEM ALL SPIKY.

TERRY SLOAN: (CONT’D)
Pixie dust. Joking. Actually it’s an airborne nanite virus that will turn your toys...

THE T-SPHERES SHOCK MR. TERRIFIC INTO UNCONSCIOUSNESS, STUNNING THE SPECTATORS.

TERRY SLOAN: (CONT’D)
... Into my toys.

Earth 2 (2012) Overall series Review

This is The New 52's first comic to be set outside of Prime Earth and is the first time we see a former multiverse planet.

To give a brief synopsis of this series: the world has been invaded by Apokolips that raged for years, until the sacrifice of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

Five years in the future Alan Scott and Jay Garrick get super powers along with Hawkgirl and Dr. Fate. This leads them to clash with Grundy (not sure if he ever uses his first name), Wotan and also marks for a second war from Steppenwolf, the man responsible for the first war.

Earth 2 also takes part in the month long "villain month", where it explores the history and origins of Grundy and everyone's favourite sadistic torturer... Desaad.

This series uses many of the classic "Golden Age" characters and takes it's own unique spin on the characters, basically forming the New 52's version of the J.S.A (Justice Society of America.)

I really do like this series and it isn't that hard to get into. Being it's own Earth, it has it's own history, so you don't have to stem too far in comicbook back issues.

Overall I think this is one of my favourite titles in the current Dc: The New 52. I love the updated versions of Green Lantern and like how they have made James Olsen and I am waiting with keen interest to find out how everything falls into place for the next installment...
